She holds a BA from Indiana University in Portuguese\, a BSN from Thomas Jefferson Un iversity\, an M.Ed. from Temple University in ESL\, an MSN from Widener Un iversity\, a post master’s certificate from Penn’s School of Nursing\, and a PhD from Penn’s Graduate School of Education.\nShe is the founder and s erved as the contributing editor for the American Journal of Nursing’s Men tal Health Matters column and is also the co-founder and an associate edit or for the Journal of Human Trafficking. A former Program Director and a f ounding member of Dawn’s Place\, a residential recovery program for traffi cked and prostituted women in Philadelphia\, she also counseled women inca rcerated in the Philadelphia Prison System for prostitution through her Pr oject Phoenix Program\, where she worked collaboratively with the Defender Association of Philadelphia. She is the former Seedworks Endowed Associat e Professor of Nursing and Social Justice at UMass Amherst’s College of Nu rsing\, and former Director of Global Studies at Drexel’s College of Nursi ng and Health Professions where she also served as the Director of the Off ice of Human Trafficking. She was the track director for the graduate psyc h NP program at the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences after which sh e taught at UPenn’s SON as a practice professor before being appointed to the position in Delaware.\nShe has decades of teaching experience and expe rience working in crisis intervention\, substance abuse\, domestic violenc e\, and forensic nursing. She has numerous publications and presentations related to human trafficking as well as mental health.
