In this month’s Coffee and Connect, Sarah Simons from the American Nurses Association (ANA) will provide an overview of the accomplishments of ANA’s Inaugural Commission to Address Racism in Nursing and where the Commission’s work is headed in 2023-2024. Within the context of ANA’s work, Sarah’s presentation will define racism, how to address racism and provide ways and resources to be anti-racist.

About the presenter: Sarah Simons, MSW, is ANA’s Special Initiatives Program Manager. Before coming to ANA she worked for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, managing funding for harm reduction and HIV programs and serving on the divisional action team to address racism as part of DOHMH’s Race to Justice initiative. Sarah is married to a nurse midwife and is passionate about public health and racial justice.

Join PSNA and Lisa DiLello, RN, BSN, from the Body + Beauty Lab for an introduction to Aesthetic Nursing. Aesthetic nursing is a specialized branch of nursing that focuses on providing comprehensive and innovative care for individuals seeking aesthetic enhancements, rejuvenation, and overall well-being. This session will explore various aspects of aesthetic nursing, including the education and training required, career outlook, and the benefits of this field of nursing. Lisa will also share the training courses offered through Body + Beauty University.

About the presenter: Lisa DiLello, RN, BSN, brings over 18 years of nursing experience with an extensive background in critical care and surgical services. After leaving the hospital setting, Lisa found her passion in aesthetics working as a clinical nurse alongside reputable cosmetic surgeons. Working with and following clients through their surgical process, as well as assisting with cosmetic office procedures, she gained valuable knowledge of facial aesthetics and became certified as a nurse injector. With a strong drive for continuous learning, she is trained in the most current and effective injectable treatments and techniques. Lisa loves working with clients to develop individual plans to help them achieve their aesthetic goals. She strives to help her clients feel their best, happiest, and most beautiful version of themselves.

About the presenter: Cheryl Peterson, MSN, RN, is the Vice President of Nursing Programs at the American Nurses Association. In this role, she provides senior leadership to the Directors of the departments of Health Policy, the Center for Ethics and Human Rights, and the Minority Fellowship Program. These departments are responsible for guiding policy development, as well as advising the ANA CEO, President, and Membership, on the full range of policy and practice issues facing the nursing profession. As part of her policy portfolio, Ms. Peterson is responsible for managing ANA’s participation within the International Council of Nurses, as well as supporting the development and implementation of quality indicators affecting patients, nurses, and the entire health care team. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati and a Master of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University.

The East Region of Penn State Health and the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA) and are very excited to invite you to join us for a N2P meet and greet event. Leaders from the state association, Lancaster Medical Center, and St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading will be in attendance, socializing and learning about each other’s organizations. If you are not familiar with PSNA or have also wanted to learn more about a career with Penn State Health, this is a perfect opportunity to come out to a fun, less formal event and talk to people who are on the frontlines of their organizations. This event is ideal for Nurse Externs, Graduate Nurses looking for Residencies, their educators, New 2 Practice RNs, and current RN’s wanting to learn more about opportunities with our organizations.
