MAY 12 Coffee and Connect – Preventing Violence Through Early Intervention
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Combined with the United States’ epidemic of mass shootings, it is crucial to raise awareness and understanding of mental health and promote resources and support for those who may be struggling with mental health issues.
Arlene Holmes is a retired RN who has worked in hospitals, home care, and discharge planning. She is the mother of James Holmes, who committed mass murder after exhibiting concerning symptoms for many years. He is in prison for life without parole.
Join PSNA as Arlene discusses the missed opportunities for intervention and treatment for James’ serious mental illness, schizophrenia.
Arlene will discuss her son’s interaction with other people in school, his relationship with his parents and sister, family culture, genetics, medical care, and counseling. She will also talk about misinterpreting the negative symptoms of schizophrenia and how people tend to stay away from students who appear “odd” to them.
Attendees will receive 1.0 contact hours.* This event is open to PSNA members only. Click here to register now.
