February 22, 2025. The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association is deeply saddened by the tragic events that unfolded today at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this senseless act of violence.
We mourn the loss of Officer Andrew Duarte of the West York Borough Police Department, who bravely responded to the incident and made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
We also stand in solidarity with the hospital staff members who were injured: a doctor, a nurse, and a custodian. Their dedication to providing care, even in the face of such danger, exemplifies the unwavering commitment of healthcare professionals across our Commonwealth.
