YNP Election

Hello, I’m Caroline Toomey (and I’m wearing glasses in this picture). I’m a pediatric staff nurse and I’m proud to serve as President of the PSNA Young Nurse Professionals (YNP) Advisory Board. Through PSNA, I’ve had many opportunities to network with nurses in Pennsylvania and across the U.S. In the last few years, I’ve attended the American Nurses Advocacy Institute, spoken at the Bloomsburg University pinning ceremony, presented a YNP session to senior nursing students in Philadelphia, and hosted a YNP networking WinterFest event.

Membership has expanded my knowledge of issues impacting our profession and our patients. I’ve made valuable professional connections and meaningful friendships. Most importantly, I’ve built my leadership and advocacy skills as I collaborate with decision makers and peers.

Today, I’d like to invite you to join me and your YNP colleagues by running for a position on the Advisory Board. (In fact, that’s Emily Hanes standing with me in the picture at PSNA’s Legislative Day. She’s also a founding member of the Advisory Board.) This is an excellent step to enhancing your leadership skills as you prepare to serve on future committees and boards. Elected members attend four meetings a year, either in-person or Zoom. You will also be asked to attend a few YNP events in your area to connect with PSNA members.

Remember – your expertise and vision will help other YNPs as they transition to practice!

Thank you for your consideration. I hope to meet you in person at the PSNA Nursing Summit on September 27.
